OLD ESCONDIDO MOTHERS DAY HOME TOUR MEETING

FEBRUARY 7, 2006 MINUTES

Connie Sue Dickinson called meeting to order at 7:00 PM at the Circle of Quiet Bed and Breakfast.

Members present were: Kevin and Lynn Hall, Doug Eagleson, Dick Althouse, Carol Rea, Catherine Laguna, Steve Rosefeld, Terri Johnson, Peggy Williams and Carol Breitenfeld.

The following subcommittee reports were given:

HEAD DOCENTS:  Catherine spoke with Mary Jo from the Costume Guild and Vintage Dance Group regarding being docents at the Mother’s Day Home Tour. The Costume Guild is only interested in being dressed in “period” costumes and mingling with the people who are attending the tour. Mary Jo felt she could get 10 or more to volunteer to do this.  Catherine will attend a February 13 meeting of the Costume Guild to get a final commitment.  Catherine was asked to find out if they would be interested in dancing where the refreshments are served.  A motion was made and seconded to have the Costume Guild participate at the “Home Tour’ event.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.  Catherine indicated there are 14 docents for sure signed up, and we will need a total of 50 volunteers.  Connie Sue gave here 3 or 4 more names.

HOME SELECTION:  Doug announced the four confirmed homes:

649 E.  5th Ave…………Home of Carla DeDomingues and her husband Bernie

            425 E.  5th Ave…………Home of Brita and Ketchen Smith

            429 E. 6th Ave………….Home of Jackie Culpepper

            706 Hickory (& 7th)……Home of Owen Schofil

These homes have committed for the tour.  A possible fifth “bonus” home was brought up for discussion that has been recently built on 5th Ave.  A decision will be made later.

TICKETS AND PROGRAMS:  Carol was very excited about Cindy Fisher, owner of Continuous Printing Corp. offering to do the brochure for the Home Tour.  The booklet will be 16 pages, 8-1/2 x 11 size, featuring the homes on tour, some history about Escondido, and several pages of advertising. One thousand copies will be printed at a cost of $1400.00; the Board has approved paying up front for this expense. With advertising being sold it should be able to reimburse the Board plus maybe making additional funds.  Anyone knowing of companies or organizations wanting to advertise in the brochure please contact Carol Rea at 735-.  Prices for advertising in the brochure are: 1/4 page - $50.00,  1/2 page - $100.00 and full page - $200.00.  Carol already has several companies and organizations that have committed to advertising.  Cindy has offered to do the layouts, artwork, and posters.  A ticket sample was submitted, and was accepted by all.  A final one will be presented later.

PUBLICITY:  Carol has submitted an article to the Bungalow Magazine, and will be submitting ones to Country Living and the Pioneer Press along with some quarterly publications.  Television and radio coverage will be done in May.  It was suggested to survey people attending on how they heard about our Mother’s Day Home Tour, so next year the committee would know which avenues of advertising were the most effective.

A suggestion was made about having carriage rides to the downtown area for dinner arrangements. That will be looked into.  The big banner will be across Washington Avenue this year.

PHOTOGRAPHY:  Connie Sue reported that Lori Tilsdale is our photographer and she recently had gall bladder surgery, so she was unable to attend the meeting.

HOME LIAISON:  It was suggested that the home banners be higher this year in order to see them over the cars.  Joann Rosefield and Connie Sue are working on these. Steve Waldron will be contacted to perhaps silk screen the banners.

HOME HISTORIES;  Lucy Berk will be in charge of the histories of each home.

LOGISTICS:  Kevin and Doug are making plans for the tables and chairs for the refreshment center. We will have 3 round tables and 2 long rectangular tables.  Pink gingham tablecloths will be used.  Also Holiday Wine Cellar will be contacted for the ice, and fifteen gallons of “Auntie Helen’s” fresh squeezed lemonade will be made.

Bottled water will be sold for $1.00 per bottle and placed at the homes. Arrangements for two portable toilets will be made and a site to place them will be decided upon.

REFRESHMENTS:  Lynn and Peggy reported on getting a cookie list from Joyce Koppelman, and making up a flier to hand out in the Old Neighborhood.  Major Market will be contacted about making lunches for the volunteers.  We will purchase napkins and cups.

Members suggested we should develop a budget for flowers that are done each year by Rosemary-Duff Florist.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.

Respectively submitted,
