155 W. 10th Avenue Price of Admission: One Canned Food Item
At
our last Mothers Day Home Tour, a bonus house on 10th Avenue was added
that had just been purchased and plans were underway for restoration.
Renovations have been completed, the house is now ready to be occupied,
and you're invited to take a quick peek before the moving van arrives.
Because
we're counting our own blessings in the Old Escondido Historic
District, instead of asking you to dig into your pocket or purse, we're
asking you to dig into your pantry; please bring at least one canned
food item in order to be admitted to the tour. All food collected will
then be donated to North County Interfaith Services to benefit those in
need.
12th Annual Open House Held May 10, 2009
Five wonderful historic homes – and a last-minute bonus sixth home - in the Old Escondido Historic District were open to the public on Mothers Day, May 10, from 11:00am until 4:00pm. The homes represented a variety of architectural styles built in 1910, the twenties, the thirties and one as recently as 1975. More than 500 visitors toured the homes and were impressed by the diversity of the homes as well as the lovely refreshments and our hospitality.
As usual, we could not have carried out the event without the help of volunteers – at least 50 of them worked before, during, and after the event. We thank every single one of you for your contribution, no matter how small or large. We hope that you enjoyed the part you played and working with a great team. We’re already getting offers from many of you to help next year!
Of course we also extend our gratitude to those who opened their homes to the public and for their additional efforts that included everything from window washing to painting and carpentry:
Bill and Cynthia Schiefler
Denise Cerro
Dr. and Mrs. Douglas Moir
Glen Vecchione
James and Patricia Spahn
Karen and Dan Hoffman
We also thank our sponsors who provided a variety of goods and services:
City of Escondido
Dr. and Mrs. John Lilley
Dr. Joan Meyer, D.P.M.
Escondido History Center
Flowers Annette Gomez
Jill Hugins
Joe’s Italian
Joseph A. Holtz, D.D.S.
Judy’s Kitchen
Rosemary-Duff Florist
Starbucks
Stone Brewery
For their cooperation and patience, we thank Alpha Graphics in San Marcos for the outstanding job they did printing our tickets and brochures.
In addition, we thank watercolor artist Joan McCurdy for the beautiful renditions of the homes on our tour, which were used for publicity purposes, the programs, and as gifts to the homeowners.
Planning has already begun for next year’s event. Whether you visited or assisted, please mark your calendar now. If you liked the Home Tour this year, we know you’ll love it next year!
